Arrangements for Speeches
The Reserve Bank seeks to ensure a high degree of transparency about its goals, decision-making processes and the basis of its policy decisions. We consider speeches as an important part of our communication with the community.
Speaking invitations
The RBA has a centralised process to consider invitations to speak at conferences and events, which are reviewed weekly. Requests for RB speakers should be submitted online via Event invitations form; please do not send invitations directly to the targeted speaker.
Due to the large number of requests for RBA speakers, we are unable to accept every invitation. We consider favourably events that are more relevant to our remit and our intended audience.
For event organisers
- We are unlikely to participate during our blackout period. Please check against our 2024 calendar.
- If we agree to participate, your event will be listed in the media section of our website prior to the scheduled date, along with your contact details for information on how reporters can attend.
- It is our preference that media be given access to that part of the event involving an RBA speaker.
- We do not give one-on-one interviews or ‘doorstops’ at the event. This can be made clear to reporters by event organisers.
- We will arrange a video/audio recording of the RBA speaker and publish it on our website. This includes any Q&A session.
- If the RBA speaker is the Governor, we usually provide a live webcast. A recorded version will later be made available on our website.
Text
We will also publish the text of the speech on our website at the time of delivery.
The published text may then be reproduced in full with proper attribution to the RBA. If reproduced online, it should contain a link to the speech on our website.
We do not consent to, or authorise, any materials based on our presentation being sold for commercial gain.
Copyright
Conditions for reproduction of speeches are set out in our Copyright and Disclaimer Notice.
Advertising
All proposed advertising and other materials related to our attendance must be cleared by us. Our participation must not be advertised as conveying exclusive insights to a select group.
Gifts
Our speakers do not wish to receive gifts and would prefer not to be offered them. An alternative could be a donation to a nominated charity such as The Anika Foundation or the Financial Markets Foundation for Children.
Expenses
We will cover the expenses of our speakers and will not accept any form of payment from the event organisers or others.
