This figure shows that the banknote distribution cycle begins and ends at a Reserve Bank distribution site. Cash-in-transit (CIT) companies transport banknotes from a Reserve Bank distribution site to a CIT depot, and from there to ADIs and retailers. Banknotes flow into the hands of the public from authorised deposit-taking institutions (ADIs) or retailers, and back when they are no longer required.
